Why is there a block in the Multi-Calendar?

A "block" in the calendar is a distinct segment of time allocated for an event taking place in a specific listing. A block will cover at least one day. The event can be a reservation or a designated closing of the listing (for preparation/cleaning etc.).

The block can be “inflexible,” preventing the scheduling of other events during its timeslot, or “flexible,” allowing you to override it. Learn below how to identify the type of block appearing in the Multi-Calendar, and how you can remove it if needed.

A block will be marked in the calendar, encompassing the event’s duration.  To identify the block’s type, hover over the event in the calendar, and check the event’s title for an indication of the block’s type. For example:

Inflexible blocks

A reservation in a Confirmed/Reserved status

When a reservation is received in Guesty, a block is created on the relevant dates, partially covering the check-in date and the check-out date, and fully covering the days in between. This type of block is “inflexible,” meaning that other events cannot be scheduled for that time in the listing.

If you wish to remove this type of block, for example, if you need to make the listing available for another reservation, consider moving the blocking reservation to another listing, or changing the blocking reservation to inactive status (such as Closed). An inactive status will remove the block from the calendar.

Smart Calendar Rules

Once you set Smart Calendar Rules, a confirmed reservation in one listing will block the same dates in a connected listing.

If Smart Calendar Rules were triggered, the block will remain on the relevant dates for the connected listing, even if you move the reservation to another listing. For example, if listing A triggered a Smart Calendar Rule to block listing B, and later you change the reservation’s assigned listing from listing A to listing C, the block on listing B will remain.

Unassigned reservations (Pro users)

This section is relevant for multi-units, available for Pro users only.

When a room is booked on a multi-unit, you can choose if a reservation will be assigned to one of the sub-units automatically or manually. If you choose to assign sub-units manually, unassigned reservations will appear in the Multi-Calendar's left sidebar, next to the name of the main unit of the multi-unit. Click the X unassigned button to display the details of these reservations.

In both cases (automatic or manual assignment), If you have an unassigned reservation and there is only one sub-unit available for the reservation dates, that unit's calendar will automatically be blocked for these dates. To remove this block, free another unit’s space and assign the reservation to it.

Tip:

You can create a custom reservations report and filter it to unassigned properties

Flexible blocks

A "flexible block" can be identified as a gray-striped block in the calendar.

A flexible block can be overridden. For example, you can create a manual reservation that overrides a manual block. When creating the reservation, you will see an alert on the setup page.

The following types of blocks are considered flexible:

You can remove a flexible block directly from the Multi-Calendar.
