Airbnb locks specific content attributes automatically to avoid unintentional overrides outside of the platform. Making changes to specific content attributes in Airbnb disables your ability to update the same attributes in Guesty regardless of the sync type. If you change them in Airbnb, they'll be managed in Airbnb.
If updates made in Guesty are not appearing on your Airbnb listing, the issue is usually caused by a locked attribute. This does not mean the integration is broken.
This article explains what that means, how to unlock the field, and how to prevent it from happening again.
Diagnosing if an attribute is locked
If you update an attribute in Guesty and it doesn't sync to Guesty, check if the field was edited in Airbnb.
- No: Follow the steps to troubleshoot issues with syncing listing content.
- Yes: The attribute is likely locked. Follow the steps below to unlock locked attributes.
Understanding locked attributes
A locked attribute is a listing field that Airbnb assigns to be managed directly in Airbnb instead of via Guesty.
This happens automatically when you edit certain listing details directly in Airbnb. Airbnb detects manual changes and assumes you want to manage that field there.
Once an attribute is locked, Guesty can't overwrite that specific field and updates in Guesty won't sync to Airbnb.
To restore syncing, you must manually unlock the field in Airbnb.
Attributes eligible for locking
Not all listing data is affected. The following fields can become locked:
Text fields
- Listing title & description fields: Name, summary, the space, access, interaction with guests
- Listing nickname
- Check-in & check-out instructions
- House rules: Only the free text, not the yes/no values
Property details
Location details
- Address: Apartment, street, city, state, zip code, country code
- Location coordinates, and whether to display the exact location to the guest
Airbnb fields, not managed by Guesty
- Listing views (not supported in Guesty)
- Listing directions (not supported in Guesty)
-
Airbnb WiFi network and password fields
Note:
Guesty's "Guest should know" section, including WiFi name and password, doesn't sync with Airbnb.
Unlock locked attributes
Restoring a data sync for locked attributes requires two phases.
1. Unlock the field in Airbnb
Step by step
- Log in to your Airbnb account.
- Click Listings.
- Select the relevant listing.
- Under “Edit preferences”, select Property management software.
- Under “Not currently managed by Guesty”, click Manage from Guesty instead.
-
Click Yes, allow.
All fields listed in that section are unlocked and you can receive updates from Guesty.
2. Trigger a sync across platforms
Unlocking a field doesn't automatically sync pending updates from Guesty to Airbnb. You must manually trigger a sync to resend the data.
Step by step:
Sign in to your Guesty account.
In the top navigation bar, click the mode selector and select Operations mode.
Click Properties.
Click the relevant listing.
Navigate to the field that was previously locked.
Modify the content or re-enter the information.
-
Click Save.
The updated content will sync to Airbnb.
Applying locked attributes intentionally
In some cases, locking an attribute can be useful for amenities that aren't supported in Guesty. If Guesty doesn't support a specific amenity or field, add it directly in Airbnb. It will lock the amenity and Airbnb will retain that content without Guesty overriding it.
