Airbnb locks specific content attributes automatically to avoid unintentional overrides outside of the platform. Making changes to specific content attributes in Airbnb disables your ability to update the same attributes in Guesty regardless of the sync type. If you change them in Airbnb, they'll be managed in Airbnb. This article explains what locked attributes are, why some of your Airbnb listings have locked attributes, and how to unlock them.
When an attribute is locked, you can’t update them in Guesty since the field on Airbnb can’t be updated via API. For instance, if you update a listing title in Airbnb, the field is automatically "locked" from being updated via Guesty and can only be managed only on Airbnb.
If you notice that some of your content data is not syncing to Airbnb it might be because you have locked attributes.
Not all attributes can be locked. The following attributes are eligible for locking:
-
Listing title & description fields: Name, summary, the space, access, interaction with guests
- Listing nickname
- Property type and listing type
- Amenities
-
Address: Apartment, street, city, state, zip code, country code
- Location coordinates, and whether to display the exact location to the guest
- Listing views (not supported in Guesty)
- Listing directions (not supported in Guesty)
- Check-in & check-out instructions
-
House rules: Only the free text, not the yes/no values
- Wifi network and password in Airbnb: Guesty's "Guest should know" section, including Wifi name and password, doesn't sync with Airbnb.
1. Unlock all locked attributes
For data types supported in Guesty, follow the steps below to unlock a locked attribute to manage it in Guesty.
Step by step
- Log in to your Airbnb account.
- Click Listings.
- Select the relevant listing.
- Under “Edit preferences”, select Property management software.
- Under “Not currently managed by Guesty”, click Manage from Guesty instead.
-
Click Yes, allow.
All the fields listed under “Not currently managed by Guesty” will be unlocked, and you can manage them in Guesty.
2. Trigger content sync across platforms
Once you unlock the "locked" content attribute on Airbnb, return to Guesty to update the unlocked content attribute to sync changes across platforms.
For example, if you unlocked the listing's title on Airbnb, make the required change to the listing's title on Guesty. When you save the change, it will sync to Airbnb.
Tip:
You can apply the locked attributes feature to your listings on Airbnb for unsupported data types in Guesty. For example, if an amenity is not supported in Guesty, you can add the amenity to your listing on Airbnb and manage from Airbnb. An unsupported data type in Guesty can’t be unlocked.
