Applying multiple promotions to a single reservation

You can set multiple promotions for the same listing. However, only one promotion can be applied to a single reservation. The logic by which a promotion is selected depends on the booking channel. Some channels offer additional promotions that can only be managed directly in the channel. You can manage them directly in the channel.

To see which promotion was applied to a reservation, create a reservations report and add the “Promotion name” column. The report will only show promotions that are managed in Guesty.

Learn below how multiple promotions will be applied to reservations from different channels.

Manual & direct integration sources

You can run three types of promotions on manual reservations and reservations from direct integration sources: Early Bird, Length of Stay, and Last Minute.

Even if a reservation is eligible for multiple promotions, only one will apply, according to the logic described below. However, for direct or manual reservations, promotions can be combined with weekly discounts, monthly discounts, and coupons.

Multiple Early Bird promotions

An Early Bird promotion rewards early bookers, granting a discount for reservations made up to X days before check-in.

If a reservation is eligible for multiple Early Bird promotions, the one offering a discount for earlier bookings will be applied. Therefore, your promotions should have a greater discount to correlate with a higher “days before check-in” value.

For example:

Early Bird #1 gives a 10% discount for reservations made at least 30 days before check-in.

Early Bird #2 gives a 20% discount for reservations made at least 60 days before check-in.

If a guest books a reservation 70 days before check-in, Early Bird 2# will be applied.

Multiple Last Minute promotions

A Last Minute promotion rewards late bookings, made X days or less before check-in.

If a reservation is eligible for multiple Last Minute promotions, the one offering a discount for later bookings will be applied. Therefore, your promotions should have a greater discount with a lower “days before check-in” value.

For example:

Last Minute #1 gives a 15% discount for reservations made two days or less before check-in.

Last Minute #2 gives a 20% discount for reservations made seven days or less before check-in.

If a guest books their stay two days before check-in, Last Minute 1# will be applied.

Multiple Length of Stay promotions

A Length of Stay promotion motivates longer reservations, giving a discount to reservations made for X or more days. If a reservation is eligible for multiple Length of Stay promotions, the

Promotion rewarding a longer stay will be applied.

For example:

Length of Stay #1 gives a 10% discount for reservations made for 7 days or more.

Length of Stay #2 gives a 20% discount for reservations made for 10 days or more.

If a reservation is made for 18 days, Length of Stay 2# will be applied.

Promotions of different types

If a reservation is eligible for multiple promotions of different types, and offers different percentages of discounts (for example, an Early Bird of 10% and a Length of Stay of 12%), the one giving the highest discount will be applied (the Length of Stay). If the discount amount is identical, the last promotion that was set will be applied.

Promotions of the same and different types

If a reservation is eligible for promotions of different and the same type, the applied promotion will be selected based on the following logic:

  1. The promotions of the same type will be compared, and the one chosen will be according to the logic discussed in the Promotions of the same type* section.
  2. The promotions of the same types will be compared, and the promotion giving the highest discount will be applied, or if the discount amount is identical, the last promotion to be set will be applied.

Airbnb

You can manage three types of promotions via Guesty: Early Bird, Length of Stay, and Last Minute. These promotions are referred to as “discounts” in Airbnb. Setting these promotions in Guesty will override any "discount" you apply to the same listing in Airbnb.

Weekly and monthly discounts, which can be added in Guesty on the property page, are synced to Airbnb as Length of Stay "discounts" too. Thus:

  • Airbnb considers weekly and monthly discounts the same as Length of Stay promotions. Thus, Guesty's weekly or monthly discounts will override a Length of Stay "discount" set in Airbnb (but will not affect Early Bird or Last Minute "discounts" set in Airbnb).
  • If you set a weekly or monthly discount and a Length of Stay promotion to the same listing in Guesty, the promotion will override the discount.

Pro users can also set a New Listing Promotion for a newly published listing via Guesty.

In addition, Airbnb offers other types of promotions (referred to as “promotions” in Airbnb), such as Custom promotions, Airbnb.org promotions, and Low Demand promotions. These types must be managed directly in Airbnb. When an Airbnb "promotion" is applied, the reservation's accommodation fare will be adjusted accordingly. However, the "promotions" won't be displayed in Guesty, including in the guest folio (invoice).

When creating a promotion in Guesty, select whether to set it for a fixed period ("time-limited"), or with no time limit (“whole calendar”). If multiple promotions are set for the same period, a reservation may be eligible for more than one promotion. However, only one can be applied, as discussed below.

Promotions of the same type

If a reservation is eligible for multiple promotions of the same type (for example, two Early Bird discounts), the most recently updated promotion will apply for any given period. If there are multiple promotions in effect during the span of a reservation, the discount for each night will be according to the most updated promotion applicable for that period.

For example: the following three Length of Stay promotions were set in the following order.

  1. First, promotion 1 (Length of Stay >10 ) is set to period 1(January)  and period 2 (February).
  2. Then, promotion 2 (Length of Stay >20 ) is set to period 2 and period 3 (March).
  3. Lastly, promotion 3 (Length of Stay >30) is set to period 1.
January February March
 Promotion 1
  Promotion 2
Promotion 3

A reservation has been received for 35 nights, from 15 Jan - 19 Feb. The reservation span will be divided into three periods: Jan, Feb, and Mar.

For the 16 nights in Jan, promotion 3 will be applied (Length of Stay>30).

For the 19 nights in Feb, promotion 2 will be applied (Length of Stay>10).

Promotions of different types

When a reservation is eligible for multiple promotions of different types, the one to apply will be selected according to the following priority list:

Airbnb promotions:

  1. Airbnb.Org promotions
  2. New Host promotions
  3. Custom promotions
  4. Low Demand promotions

Guesty promotions (referred to as Airbnb discounts):

  1. Length of Stay promotions
  2. Early Bird promotions
  3. Last Minute promotions

For example:

If a reservation is eligible for both a Length of Stay promotion and an Early Bird promotion,  the Length of Stay promotion will be applied, as it is prioritized over the Early Bird promotion.

Booking.com

The following types of Booking.com promotions are managed in Guesty:

  • Early Bird
  • Last Minute
  • Basic promotion
  • Mobile Rate promotion

Booking.com offers additional types of promotions (such as Country rates). Manage these directly in Booking.com. The updated reservation price will sync with Guesty for both connection types (rates and availability, and full sync).

All Booking.com promotions are classified into the following categories:

  • Genius promotions (not supported in Guesty)
  • Targeting promotions
    • Mobile rate (supported in Guesty)
    • Geo rate (not supported in Guesty)
  • Portfolio deals (supported in Guesty)
    • Last Minute
    • Basic Promotion
    • Early Bird
  • Campaigning deals (not supported in Guesty)

A reservation can be eligible for multiple promotions. If the promotions are within the same category (excluding the Genius category), the promotion offering a greater discount will be applied. Genius promotions can be combined.

Promotions from different categories can be combined, according to the following logic:

First, the rate plan determines the accommodation fare. Then, a Genius category promotion will be applied (if set). Then, a targeted promotion will be applied, followed by a portfolio deal.

Expedia

Promotions cannot be combined. If two promotions are set for the same dates, the promotion offering the greater discount will be applied.
