With Guesty Locks Manager, you can manage every smart lock you use remotely – all from one dashboard – with an automatic, unique code generator and full visibility into lock data.
Once your locks are linked to properties, the code creation is activated by default. Define your code settings by changing the number of digits, the activation and deactivation time, and whether the code is generated at random or based on the guest's phone number. Setting or changing codes manually is not yet supported.
Code setting changes will apply only to new reservations.

Code activation / deactivation
Activation and deactivation settings will apply only to private unit doors. To set activation and deactivation times for a common door lock, click Locks in the left-side menu. Click the relevant lock, then click to the right of "Guest code activation".
The guest code is activated by default at the estimated time of arrival (ETA). The time is based on the property check-in time or on the guest's ETA if added to a reservation.
The guest code is deactivated by default at estimated time of departure (ETD). The time is based on the property check-out time or on the guest's ETD if added to a reservation.
To customize the activation or deactivation time, click the "Start activation" or "End activation" dropdown menu to change the time by 15 minute increments from ETA/ETD. For example:
- Activate the code 30 minutes before ETA
- Deactivate the code 45 minutes after ETD
For more details on setting the timing for guest code activation, including how to handle early arrivals, see our best practices.
When do guest codes sync to locks?
When guest codes are created in Guesty, they are not immediately synced to the locks. Codes that have already synced show in green on the lock page, while codes that will sync close to the activation time show in purple.
For locks that allow scheduled codes, code are synced 72 hours before activation time. Once a scheduled code is synced to the lock, it works regardless of the online state of the lock.
For locks that don't support scheduled codes, codes are synced a few minutes before activation. If the lock is offline at that time, the code will not sync and the guest will not be able to use their code. The guest code will display as "failed" in Guesty Locks Manager.
Code format
By default, codes are four digits in length. Use the dropdown menu to change the number of digits. Code settings apply to all properties. Before changing the number of digits, make sure all your linked locks can support the chosen code length.
Choose whether the code will be generated at random or according to the last digits of the guest's phone number. If the reservation doesn't have a guest phone number by the confirmation time, the code will be random.
Note:
For Nuki locks, due to Nuki's restrictions, codes cannot include "0" or start with "12". We recommend using the default random code generation instead of the guest's phone number which can include the restricted digits.
If there is an issue at check-in, you can share the guest backup code or create a newly generated code.
Team member codes
Create team member codes in the lock page.
Note:
For Salto locks, team member codes cannot be customized. The codes are randomly generated by Salto and synced to Guesty Locks Manager within 20 minutes.
Step by step:
- To the right of to "Team member codes", click New code.
- In the pop-up, enter a desired code. Make sure that the code is not already in use for another team member and that the code length is supported by your lock settings.
Important:
For Nuki locks, due to Nuki's restrictions, codes cannot include "0" or start with "12".
- From the dropdown menu, select the code category (e.g. Backup, Cleaner).
- Enter a description (optional).
- To set a temporary schedule for the code’s validity, toggle on Expiration settings. If toggled off, the code will not expire.
- Click Save.
To edit a team member code, click to the right. To delete a code, click X.
View guest codes
The following information is displayed in the lock page:
Currently staying | Staying in the next 30 days |

Tip:
You can also view the guest code, backup guest code, and lock health status in each reservation.
Backup codes
Backup codes provide an extra layer of security and convenience for guests. By having backup codes in place, you:
- Reduce disruptions if the primary guest code is compromised.
- Ensure continuous access for guests.
Keeping two backup codes allows seamlessly replacing an old code with a new one after check-out, ensuring there’s always a reliable fail-safe in place.
When a guest checks out, the primary code is deleted and the following occurs automatically:
- Backup code A is deleted.
- Backup code B converts into the new backup code A.
- New code is generated, which becomes the new backup code B.
This ensures the two backup codes remain up-to-date for future guests.
Codes created outside Guesty
Permanent lock codes are imported as team member codes when a lock provider connected. By default, these codes will be managed in Guesty once the lock provider is connected. To continue managing the codes outside of Guesty, toggle off Manage existing codes in Guesty Locks Manager and click Save.
Note:
The lock provider SmartThings does not support importing existing codes to Guesty. If you are connecting this provider and have existing codes on the locks, you will need to manually remove them from the provider's app and then create new codes in Guesty.
Automatically update check-in status
By default, your guests' stay status will automatically update upon the first use of the access code. You can disable this feature by toggling off Automatically update check-in status.
