Charging an authorization hold

Once an authorization hold has been placed, manually or automatically, and funds have been frozen on a credit card, you can charge the funds held. Follow the instructions below.

Important:

To charge the funds being held in the authorization hold, the reservation must have a balance due. You can adjust the accommodation fare or add an additional fee.

Step by step:

  1. Sign in to your Guesty account.
  2. In the top navigation bar, click the mode selector and select Financials mode.
  3. Click Reservations.
  4. Click the relevant reservation.
  5. In the banner at the top of the page, click Balance due/Payout.
  6. Find the "Payments" section.
  7. On the relevant payment line with an "Authorization hold" under "Transaction type", click Charge now.
  8. In the pop-up, click Yes, charge payment.

Two line items will now appear under Payments:

  • The original transaction type "Authorization hold", in status "Completed"
  • A new transaction type "Charge" in status "Approved"

Note:

Due to a requirement set by Stripe, seven days is the maximum length of an authorization hold. Any amount that has not been charged after seven days will be released automatically.
