Adding an authorization hold automatically: Explained

Freeze funds on a credit card for a limited time by placing an authorization hold. The hold expires after seven days and the funds are then released from the credit card. If you want to release the funds before the hold expires, you can release the funds manually.

Follow the instructions below to place an authorization hold automatically using Auto Payments and details about the fields to customize.

Step by step:

  1. Sign in to your Guesty account.
  2. In the top navigation bar, click the mode selector and select Operations mode.
  3. Click Properties.
  4. Select the relevant listing.
  5. In the listing's menu, click Pricing & Policies, then select Auto Payments.
  6. Click Add rule, then select Authorization hold.
  7. Customize the relevant fields.

Note:

Due to a requirement set by payment processor Stripe, seven days is the maximum length of an authorization hold. Any amount that hasn't been charged after seven days will be released automatically.

Scheduled hold (capture) of funds

Choose when Guesty will activate the authorization hold on the guest's credit card.
Important:
The following rule configurations for "Scheduled hold (capture) of funds" are not supported by Vrbo:
  • Before Check-out: You can choose any of the following instead:
    • At or After Check-out.
    • At, Before, or After Check-in.
    • At or After Confirmation.
  • Minutes: You can use Days instead.
  • Hours: You can use Days instead.

Amount to hold

Choose the amount to hold on the guest's credit card. The maximum fixed amount possible to hold is what's left of the reservation's total payout (including the security deposit). If the hold amount is set larger than the allowed maximum, the hold amount will be set to the maximum. For example, if you want to schedule an authorization hold for $300, but the reservation has a total remaining balance of $50, you would only be able to schedule an authorization hold for $50.

Charge

The authorization hold will automatically expire seven days after it is activated, and the funds will be released. You can choose to charge the frozen funds before that happens.
Select Yes and choose when to charge the funds under "Scheduled Funds Charge" and how much of the frozen funds to charge under "Amount to Charge".

Release

The authorization hold will automatically expire seven days after it is activated, and the funds will be released. You can choose to release the frozen funds before that happens.
Select Yes and choose when to release the funds under "Scheduled Funds Release". The "Amount to Release" is automatically set to "rest of payment from the total payout".
