Here are our guidelines and recommended best practices for using custom fields:

  • Use custom fields to add dynamic details to your listings and reservations, and to filter your custom reports.
    • Use listing custom fields for information that varies from listing to listing, such as parking information or a wifi password.
    • Use reservation custom fields for information that varies per reservation, such as flight details or guest nationality.
  • Use custom variables when sending messages from the Guesty Inbox or creating templates for automated messages.
    • A variable is automatically generated each time you create a custom field.

      For example: A "Minimum age" custom field will generate a {{minimum_age}} custom variable.

    • When you insert a variable into a message sent from Guesty, the value in the custom variable will be automatically applied when the message is sent.
  • Avoid using dashes in custom field names as automated messages will fail if a custom variable contains a dash.

    For example:

    • Incorrect: "Building-name" / {{building-name}}
    • Correct: "Building name" / {{building_name}}
  • After you create a custom field, you can set a default value for this field per listing or reservation.
  • Use custom fields as sending conditions for automated messages.
  • You can view the custom field variables you've created in the "Custom fields" dashboard.
