Sending and receiving SMS messages via Guesty

You can send SMS messages to a guest from the Guesty Inbox or via message automations, provided the guest's phone number is saved in Guesty. SMS messaging is ideal for short and concise instructions, with a character limit of 306 for messages in English and 134 for messages in other languages.

Sending SMS messages

When you send an SMS to a guest, whether is an automated message or it is created manually, the phone number that appears to the guest will depend on their location as follows:

Guest's location Phone number (message received from)
Guests based in North or South America +12106861984
Guests based in Australia +61480088796
Guests based in other countries +447520619995

Guests responding to SMS messages

Guests can reply to SMS messages using the Guesty number shown in the received message.
The guest's phone number must be saved in Guesty to receive a reply from a guest.

Limitations

    • Viewing SMS messages:
Messages sent from the Guesty Inbox via SMS or WhatsApp are delivered to the guest's phone number. They can be viewed only on their phone, and not in the respective booking channel's inbox.
    • Images via SMS:
Guesty does not support receiving images via SMS. If images are attached to an SMS, the message will not be received in the Guesty Inbox even if the guest is responding to an SMS that was sent to them from the Inbox. Learn more about sending messages with images from the Inbox.
    • Character limit:
When sending an SMS to a guest from the Guesty Inbox via both manual and automated messages, please note the following limitations:
      • For English, the limitation is 306 characters per SMS.
      • For Non-English, which is considered Unicode, the limitation is 134 characters per SMS.
When Unicode is added, the limitation changes to 134 characters per SMS, due to general SMS restrictions. This limitation may also be triggered by pasting text from another source, since Unicode may be added to a copied version, without you knowing. To avoid this, be sure to rewrite the text, rather than paste it.

If an SMS exceeds the character limitation, the error message "SMS is too long. Only part of the message was sent" will appear. The message will be split into two and only the first part will be sent.

Unicode is any character that is not found in the GSM-7 character set, which includes the following:
      • All Latin characters A-Z
      • Digits 0-9
      • A few more special characters, such as Curly brackets, Backslash, Tilde, and Euro sign.

Important:

When using variables in SMS messages, the text inserted instead of the variable might cause the message to exceed the character limitation.
