Use text tools to customize the appearance of a Text or Title widget. You can adjust the font, color, alignment, and style of text using a simple editing interface. These tools allow you to apply style changes to specific text on your site to highlight key points and organize information.

To add text to your site, click Widgets in the left-side menu, then click and drag the Text widget into your site to start typing.

Understand text limitations

When using the text editor, keep the following limitations in mind to ensure your site remains functional and consistent:

  • Lists cannot include heading text.
  • List item bullets that contain multiple font sizes default to the site theme size.
  • HTML updates with non-supported tags aren't permitted due to HTML5 best practices. To apply a specific style to text, add the style to the CSS. The following tags are supported via developer mode: img, sub, sup, blockquote, code.

Upgrade to the new text editor

The updated text editor is available for all text widgets, including "Large Title H1", "Small Title H3", and paragraphs. This version includes all existing inline options plus improved stability and a wider range of customizations. The new editor supports text sizes up to 500px and allows you to use different text styles within the same element.

Explore text styles and size improvements

The new editor provides several enhancements for managing text styles and formatting:

  • Expanded text sizes up to 500px.
  • Support for multiple text types in a single element, such as combining Heading 2, paragraphs, and Heading 3 in one block.
  • Font weight selection within the list. Point to a font in the list to select weights like normal or bold.
  • External and internal copy-paste support. Pasting text applies global styles and inline styles like bold, underline, and italic.
  • Custom line height options.
  • Letter spacing controls. Click [ellipsis icon] ⃛ in the inline text editor to select Auto, Narrow, Wide, or Custom spacing.
  • All Caps formatting. Click [ellipsis icon] ⃛ in the inline text editor and toggle on All Caps.
  • Text shadow customization for color and position.
  • Expanded bullet list styles. Click the arrow next to the Bullet list icon.
  • Strike-through text formatting.
  • Dynamic data connection. Click the Connected Data icon in the inline text editor.

Note:

Note: Existing site text can be edited with the old editor or updated to the new one. All new text uses the new editor, except for templates and sections, which use the old editor.

Follow the steps below to upgrade and use the new text editor.

Step by step:

  1. Click the text you want to edit to open editing mode.
  2. In the text editor, click Update text editor.
  3. In the confirmation message, choose one of the following:
    • Update this text: Updates only the selected text widget.
    • Auto update all texts: Updates every text widget across the entire site.

Once you confirm the update, you can't revert the text widget to the old editor.

Edit text

Follow the steps below to edit text on your site.

Step by step:

  1. Click the text box you want to edit.
  2. Click and drag over the relevant text to select it.
  3. Use the inline editing options in the text editor.
  4. Click the green check mark on the inline editor to save changes.

Edit the text block design

Right-click the text widget and click Edit Design to adjust the styling of the text block.

The default text design uses global design settings. Any changes you make to specific text override these global settings. Learn more about theme text.

Troubleshooting and FAQs

Troubleshooting new editor updates

Updates to the new text editor may fail because of the following reasons:

  • The widget contains custom code with invalid HTML.
  • The site has reached its maximum CSS storage capacity.
  • The upgrade option won't appear if your text contains unsupported tags. These tags include: form, svg, iframe, audio, canvas, dialog, embed, hr, input, map, picture, select, textarea, range, table, progress, script, ins, style.
