When a reservation's assigned listing is changed, Guesty automatically adjusts the associated fees and expenses to ensure your accounting records remain accurate. The way Guesty handles these items depends on whether the change is made before, at, or after the guest's check-in.
Listing changed before or at check-in
If you change a reservation's listing before or at the time of check-in, Guesty updates the associated fees automatically.
- The fee or expense tied to the original listing is removed.
- A new expense is created under the new listing.
This process ensures that only one active expense is associated with the fee. This automatic update will only occur if the fee has not already been marked as "paid".
How changes appear in your Accounting records
This automated process is designed to prevent confusion in your financial reporting. When a listing is changed before or at check-in, the Posting Journal will always show one row for the fee, which correctly matches the single entry on the guest folio or Owner Statement. This avoids the appearance of duplicate journal entries that could previously occur after a listing change.
