Approving Airbnb reservation requests

You can approve reservation requests from guests via the reservation page in Guesty or the Guesty Inbox.
Airbnb provides up to 23 hours and 50 minutes to approve or decline the request.
The dates will be blocked on the calendar until you approve the reservation or the request expires.

How the request to book flow works

Below is the lifecycle of a booking request's reservation status from start to finish:

  1. First, the guest will select reservation dates on the listing page in Airbnb, and click Reserve. After that, they'll proceed to the checkout page.
  2. Once the guest provides their payment details, they'll click Request to book to send the reservation request to the Host.
  3. The reservation will update to pending_verification status in Airbnb.
    This status means that Airbnb is checking if the dates are available to book, as well as, verifying the guest’s identity and payment method.
    The process may take up to 24 hours.
  4. If the guest has passed the verification process successfully, the reservation status will change to Pending. If the guest hasn't passed the verification process, their request will be a failed booking, and won't be sent to the Host.
    The "Pending" status means that Airbnb has sent a reservation requested notification to Guesty. You'll also receive the request via a message thread on Airbnb.
  5. You'll then have 24 hours to either approve or decline the request.
    The dates will be blocked to prevent overbookings.
    • If you accept the reservation request:
      The guest's payment method will be charged
      1. If the charge attempt fails, the guest will be given 24 hours to revise or update their payment method, and the reservation update to pending_payment status.
      2. If the charge attempt is successful, the reservation status will transition to Confirmed.
      3. If the payment issues haven't been resolved within 24 hours, the reservation request will no longer be valid and the dates will become available for other guests to book.
    • If you deny the reservation request, the request expires, or the guest retracts their request:
      The reservation request will be voided and the dates will become available for other guests to book again.

      Important:

      The reservation can be declined automatically if one of the following occurs:

      • The requested dates aren't available anymore
      • The capacity of the listing in Guesty (number of guests allowed) is less than what the request has
        For example: If a listing in Guesty has a capacity for 10 guests, but the request is for 12 guests, the reservation request will be automatically declined.

 

Before you begin

Below is some important information to note about "Request to Book" reservation inquiry:

  • In order to maintain your Airbnb response rate, the request will automatically decline if you don't approve the reservation within 23 hours and 50 minutes after it's received
  • Guesty will send a message to the guest on your behalf to inform them that the host is unable to accept the reservation
  • Guests can make changes to their reservations by submitting an alteration request in Airbnb
    These requests will be received in the Guesty Inbox along with other messages from the guest
  • An inquiry from Airbnb will be pulled into Guesty only if there is a message attached to it.
    Otherwise, the inquiry won't be received in Guesty.
  • You might receive a confirmed Airbnb reservation without approving it first in Guesty
    When Airbnb listings are configured with Instant Book booking settings, Airbnb will automatically confirm guest bookings that meet their basic requirements (plus any additional requirements set by the host).
    Contact us if your listing wasn't configured to receive Instant Book reservations at the time the reservation was made.

 

Approving Airbnb reservation requests via the Guesty Inbox

Follow the instructions below to approve a request via the Inbox.

Step by step:

  1. Sign in to your Guesty account.
  2. In the top navigation bar, click .
  3. In the lefthand menu, click Guests Inbox.
  4. Click the relevant message thread on the left side.
  5. From the vertical toolbar on the right side, click.
  6. Click Approve in the toolbar.

Follow the instructions below to approve a request via Reservations.

Step by step:

  1. Sign in to your Guesty account.
  2. In the top navigation bar, click the mode selector and select Operations mode.
  3. Click Reservations.
  4. Click the relevant reservation.
  5. Click Approve in the "Summary" section.
