One reason could due to changing a listing's default check-in and check-out times.
In this case, the changes won't apply to existing reservations.
On some occasions, Airbnb guests have the option to select a different check-in/check-out time from the default time that was chosen when the listing was set up.
The user will have this option in the following scenarios:
-
If the listing's check-in/out settings are set to "flexible"
In this case, guests can edit the check-in/out time during the booking process.
This will change the reservation from Instant Book to Request to Book. -
If a guest creates a reservation within 48 hours of the check-in date
In this case, Airbnb offers them the option to select a custom check-in time, which may be outside of the host's defined check-in window.
If this happens, the reservation will come in as a Request to Book.
In these scenarios, you will see a warning icon next to the check-in/out time on a Request to Book reservation indicating that the times the guest selected deviate from the listing's default check-in/check-out times.
