Understanding the Tax Configuration Auditor Agent

The Tax configuration auditor agent helps you maintain consistent tax settings across your properties. It automatically compares the tax setup of all active properties within the same city and flags any that differ from the majority, making it easier to spot and correct inconsistencies.

This agent is a read-only tool and will not make any changes to your tax configurations. It only reports on the differences it finds, allowing you to review and update them manually.

Limitations

Review the following limitations before using the Tax configuration auditor agent:

  • Detect-only / read-only: The agent only reports differences for you to fix manually. It never edits tax settings or property information.
  • Active listings only: The agent does not scan or include inactive properties in its audit.
  • Same-city comparison only: The agent compares properties within a single city against each other. It does not validate your tax rates against actual municipal tax laws. If all properties in a city are configured with the same incorrect tax settings, the agent will not flag them.
  • On-demand only: The agent does not run on an automatic schedule and must be started manually.

Understand the Tax configuration auditor agent

The Tax configuration auditor agent runs on-demand only and must be triggered manually.

When the agent runs, it performs the following actions:

  1. Groups all your active properties by city.
  2. Skips cities that contain only a single property.
  3. For each city with multiple properties, it compares the tax configuration of every property to identify the most common, or "dominant," setup.
  4. It flags any properties whose tax setup differs from the dominant one. This includes properties that have no taxes configured.
  5. It generates a report detailing any inconsistencies found. If all multi-property cities have a consistent tax setup, the report will confirm this.

Review the activity feed

Follow the steps below to review your activity feed.

  1. Sign in to your Guesty account.
  2. In the side navigation menu, select icon Agents hub.
  3. In the left submenu, click Agent activity.
  4. Click the row with "Tax configuration auditor" to review the report details in the right side panel.

Understand the report details

The variance report is grouped by city and contains the following information:

  • A list of cities where tax configurations are inconsistent. Cities where all properties share the same tax setup are not included in the report.
  • For each city with variances, the report shows the dominant tax configuration found among the properties in that city.
  • Below the dominant configuration, the report lists each outlier property, identified by its nickname and listing ID. The specific tax fields that differ from the dominant setup are highlighted for each outlier.

Review and resolve tax configuration differences

The agent's report provides all the information you need to manually resolve tax inconsistencies. Review the dominant tax configuration shown for each city and compare it to the outlier properties listed.

You can then navigate to each outlier property and update its settings to ensure it is configured correctly. For more information on how to adjust tax settings, see our article on setting up taxes.

Tip:

The agent groups properties based on the city recorded in their address. If your properties have inconsistent city names (e.g., "New York" vs. "New York City"), the agent may not group them correctly. See our guide on fixing duplicate locations to ensure your property data is consistent.
