Allow guests to include pets in their search, view pet allowances upfront, and automatically include pet fees in the price breakdown. Set up this feature to streamline the booking process for pet owners and ensure accurate pricing.
Before you begin
Configure pet fees in the listing policies before enabling pet search to ensure fees calculate correctly when a guest selects pets.
Enable a pet-friendly search
Follow the steps below to enable pet selection in your Booking Engine settings.
Step by step:
- Sign in to your Guesty account.
- In the side navigation menu, click
Marketing and sales to open the dropdown menu.
- Under "Channel management", select Distribution.
- Click the Guesty Booking Engine thumbnail.
- Click
next to the relevant Booking Engine, and select Edit booking engine.
- In the side navigation menu, click Booking settings.
- Under “Search bar and filter setting (booking widget)”:
- Toggle on Show guest filter.
- Toggle on Show pets filter.
- In the left submenu, click Languages to navigate to the last action.
- Click Save Booking Engine to apply your changes.
Understand the guest experience
Enabling the pet filter updates the guest search and checkout flow across the Booking Engine and website. Here’s what your guests will see:
Search and filtering
- Search selector: A "Pets" selector appears in the search bar and on property pages, allowing guests to add pets to the search query. Guests can add a maximum of five pets per reservation.
- Automatic filtering: When a guest includes pets in the search, the search results automatically filter to show only pet-friendly listings.
- Visual badges: Pet-friendly listings display a "Pet Friendly" badge on the search cards, and the specific pet allowance appears above the fold on the property page. These visual indicators remain visible whether the guest uses the pet filter or not.
Pricing and checkout
- Automatic fees: When a guest indicates they travel with pets, the system automatically includes the pet fee in the total price and the itemized price breakdown.
- Streamlined checkout: Because the initial quote already includes the pet fee, the system automatically hides the pet-fee upsell in the checkout carousel to prevent duplicate charges or confusion.
Note:
The pet fee applies only when the guest explicitly indicates they travel with pets during the search or booking process.
After enabling the setting, review your public property pages to verify that the "Pet Friendly" badge and pet allowances display correctly on active listings. You can also view pet details directly inside the reservation object or via public APIs, as Guesty stores this data automatically for every booking.
