GuestyPay supports American Express (Amex) card transactions for canadian merchants under specific conditions. Here's what you need to know about processing Amex payments through GuestyPay in Canada.
Requirements for Amex support
To accept American Express cards through GuestyPay as a canadian merchant, you must have:
- A direct American Express Merchant ID (MID)
- Authorization to share your Amex MID with Guesty
Without a direct Amex MID, GuestyPay cannot process American Express transactions for canadian merchants.
How to enable Amex support
If you have a direct Amex Merchant ID and want to enable American Express support:
- Contact our support team with your Amex MID details
- Provide your direct Amex Merchant ID for verification
- Wait for confirmation while our Payments team works with our banking partner to connect your MID
Once connected, you'll be able to accept American Express payments through GuestyPay.
Fees and processing
When your Amex MID is connected to GuestyPay:
- Gateway fee: $0.30 per Amex transaction
- Processing fees: None charged by GuestyPay
- Settlement: Handled directly by American Express
The gateway fee covers the cost of routing transactions through our system. All processing and settlement are managed directly by American Express, not by GuestyPay.
Alternative payment options
If you don't have a direct Amex MID, we recommend:
- Asking guests to use Visa or Mastercard instead
- Considering applying for a direct American Express Merchant ID if Amex transactions are important for your business
Contact us if you have questions about American Express support or need assistance with your Merchant ID setup.
