Beta: Using accounting dimensions to segment financial information

Accounting dimensions, also known as financial dimensions or account dimensions, are attributes used in financial and management accounting to classify and analyze financial data in more detail. These dimensions provide a way to segment financial information beyond the traditional general ledger accounts, allowing for more granular reporting and better insights into business performance.

In Guesty you can define accounting dimensions, then manually add values in specific listings and reservations to be viewed in the posting journal. For example:

• Group listings by cost centers and departments
• Distinguish reservations revenue by long term vs short term

Define accounting dimensions

Step by step:

1. Sign in to your Guesty account.
2. In the top navigation bar, click the mode selector and select Accounting mode.
3. Click Setup.
4. In the left menu, click Dimensions.
5. At the top right, click Edit.
6. Define listing dimensions:
   1. In the first "dimension's name" field, enter a definition in the text box.
   2. Define additional dimensions as needed, up to ten. 
7. Define reservation dimensions:
   1. Click Reservation.
   2. In the first "dimension's name" field, enter a dimension name in the text box.
   3. Define additional dimensions as needed, up to ten.
8. At the top right, click Save.

Add dimension values in a listing

Add values to a specific listing to appear in the posting journal.

Step by step:

1. Sign in to your Guesty account.
2. In the top navigation bar, click the mode selector and select Operations mode.
3. Click Properties.
4. Click on the relevant property.
5. In the left menu, scroll down and click Accounting dimensions.
6. At the top right, click Edit.
7. Under each dimension, enter a new value or select an existing value from the dropdown menu that is relevant for this listing.
8. At the top right, click Save.

Add dimension values in a reservation

Add values to a specific reservation to appear in the posting journal.

Step by step:

1. Sign in to your Guesty account.
2. In the top navigation bar, click the mode selector and select Operations mode.
3. Click Reservations.
4. Click on the relevant reservation.
5. Click Balance due / Payout in the gray banner at the top of the page.
6. Scroll down to Accounting dimensions (displayed to the right of the Accounting folio).
7. To the right of "Accounting dimensions" click .
8. Under each dimension, enter a new value or select an existing value from the dropdown that is relevant for this reservation.
9. At the top right, click Save.

View accounting dimensions in the posting journal

From the Accounting dimensions page in the listing or reservations, you can click Go to Posting journal directly. Otherwise follow the steps below to access the posting journal, then download as a CSV to view the dimensions.

Step by step:

1. Sign in to your Guesty account.
2. In the top navigation bar, click the mode selector and select Accounting mode.
3. Click General ledger.
4. In the Posting Journal, at the top right click .
5. In the pop-up, select the property and reservation dimensions to include.
6. Click Export CSV.
