How do additional fees sync with booking channels?

When you create or edit an additional fee, you can decide to sync it automatically to reservations made via supported channels. When a fee is synced, you cannot choose which channels it syncs with - it automatically syncs with all connected channels that support that fee type.

In addition to the fee type, you choose if the fee is a fixed amount or percentage and how it is calculated. A fixed fee can be per guest or per stay, for example, and a percentage fee can be calculated based on the accommodation fare or cleaning fee.

These settings create many combinations, but not all of them are supported by all of the channels. So, even if the fee type syncs with a channel, the specific way you set up that fee might not be supported. Following

You can use the following information to help you set up your additional fees. For example:

  • You might want to choose a fee type that syncs with as many channels as possible.
  • If you set up 4 fee types that appear under a single name in the channel you may want to choose a different type for one of them, so that only 3 are merged on the channel.
  • If you set up a fixed fee per night, it will sync with Vrbo but not Airbnb. If you make the fee per stay, you will be able to sync it with both channels.

Note:

Cleaning and extra person fees are considered basic fees, and can be edited under each listing's Pricing and Policies.

Does the fee sync with the channel?

Below is a table with additional fee types and how they sync with Airbnb, Booking.com, and Vrbo. For all other channels, see this overview and click on the relevant channel article for details.

  •  Does not sync = ✗
  • Syncs = the name the fee has on the channel

The fee name on the channel may be different from the fee type in Guesty. For example, Guesty's "Baby bed" fee type is “Linen fee” on Airbnb.

Important:

If multiple Guesty fee types fall under the same name on the channel, they will merge and be presented as one aggregated fee.

What fee combinations are supported?

The list below is a static review of combinations that are accepted by each channel. If you want a dynamic review of your additional fees as you set them up, including real-time suggestions to help you maximize syncing - it appears in your dashboard after you turn on the Sync toggle.

When you create or edit an additional fee, you choose if it is a fixed amount or percentage and how it is calculated:

  • A fixed fee can be collected:
    • Per night
    • Per guest
    • Per stay
    • Per guest per night
  • A percentage fee can be calculated based on the:
    • Accommodation fare
    • Cleaning fee
    • Accommodation fare + cleaning fee

As explained in the section above, even if a fee type does sync with a certain channel, the specific way the fee was set up might not be supported - causing it to not sync. See below which combinations are accepted per channel:

Airbnb

  • Fixed fees must be "Per stay".
  • Percentage fees must be based on the "Accommodation fare + cleaning fee".

    Important:

Although "cleaning fee" is also selected, the percentage fee for Airbnb will only be based on the accommodation fare.

  • If multiple Guesty fee types appear under the same name on Airbnb, they must all be fixed fees or they will not be able to merge or sync.
  • See more details and examples.

Booking.com (relevant for published listings only)

  • Fixed fees can be "Per night", "Per guest", "Per stay", or "Per guest per night".
  • Percentage fees must be based on the "Accommodation fare".

Vrbo

  • Fixed fees can be "Per night", "Per guest", "Per stay", or "Per guest per night".
  • Percentage fees must be based on the "Accommodation fare".
